2021 WSGA Senior Amateur Championship, September 11 - 12

Kendall Ashba is the 2021 Senior Amateur Champion. Her scores were 84 – 83 for a total 167. Charlene Thomas was 2nd with scores 0f 83 – 87 for a total 170. 
Theresa Eicher had scores of 75 – 73 to win low net in the Championship Flight.

Chris Cookson is the 2021 Senior Amateur Champion after scores of 71 – 75 for a total of 146. Scott Aune was 2nd. He had a total of 149.
Darryl Begeman was 1st net in the Championship Flight.

Keven Rutherford won the 1st Flight with scores of 82-74 for a total of 156. Dave Blyth was second after posting scores of 80 – 82.

Keith Wells tied for first place gross at 156 and was awarded 1st low net in the 1st Flight with a total of 144.

Donna Cleveland is the First Flight Winner with scores of 93-98 for a total 191. Dalene Lockhart was 2nd. 
Karen Holcomb was low net in the First Flight.

Tim Maslak won the 2nd Flight with scores of 77-88 for a total 165.  Dale Kostur  was 2nd Gross.
Jim Blakeslee was low net.

Pam Hornbeck is the 2nd Flight Winner with scores of 103-84 for a total 187. Carol Butler was 2nd. 
Donna Brown was low net in the 2nd Flight.

Ernie Johnson won the Men’s 3rd Flight with scores of 91-90 for a total 181. Tom Hogan and Charles Hopkin Tied for 2nd. 
Randy Beckler was low net in the 3rd Flight.

Lema Jamieson is the 3rd Flight Winner with scores of 103-96 for a total 199. Jill Balling was 2nd. 
Sue Blankenship was low net in the 3rd Flight.

Ron Reed won the Men’s 4th Flight with scores of 89-94 for a total 184. Karl Butler was 2nd. 
Frank Bird was low net in the 4th Flight.

2021 WSGA Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship, September 1 - 3

Klinton Krieger is the 2021 Mid-Amateur Match Play Champion. Klinton defeated Brock Ehler 3 and 2.

Falinda Hall is the 2021 Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion. Falinda scored a total of 7 points in Round Robin Play. Shirley Kaetzer was second with 4 points.

Carol Butler won the Women’s First Flight with a point total of 6 points. Nancy Zierolf was second with 5 1/2 points

Yun Ro was the winner of the First Flight. He defeated Kent Lenhardt 1 up.

Scott Badley won the Second Flight after defeating Dave Blyth after 19 holes. 

Ernie Johnson defeated Larry Hedderman to win the Third Flight 5 and 3.

Eric Foote won the Fourth Flight after defeating Lou Ditzler 3 and 2

2021 WSGA Four-Ball Championship August 21 -22

Denton Shaw and Trey Massey are the 2021 WSGA Four-Ball Champions . They had scores of 64, 67 for a two-day total of 131 which was 13 under par.

Ali and Molli Mulhall are the 2021 Four-Ball Chamions in the Women/Mixed Division. Their two-day total was 134 or 10 Under par. They had scores of 64, 70.

2021 WSGA Mid-Amateur Championship August 6 - 8

Brandon Williams is the 2021 Mid-Amateur Champion. Brandon had rounds of 69, 68, and 71 for a total of 208.

Falinda Hall is the 2021 Mid-Amateur Champion with rounds of 82, 81, 85 for a total  of 248.

Wes Albertson won the First Flight with gross scores of 77, 70, 72 for a total of 219.

Samuel Little won the Second Flight with a total of 229. His scores were 77,72, and 80.

Mark Nussbaum won the Third Flight after a playoff with Jim Taylor. Mark’s gross scores were 88, 89, 87 for a total of 264.

Mark Cornell won the Fourth Flight.  His scores were 88, 81, 90, totaling 259.

Candi Jurek won the Women’s Net Division with net scores of 72, 70, and 72 for a total of 215

The Purple Sage Golf Course was in excellent condition. It was a little smoky and the first day was breezy.
The weather cooperated for the last two rounds.

WSGA's Jim Core

  Jim was born January 21, 1935, in Choteau, Montana to Clint and Lona Lee Core.  The Core’s along with sons Clint and Jim and daughters Caryl and Judy, moved to Greybull, Wyoming in 1946.  Jim graduated from Greybull High School in 1953 and the University of Wyoming in 1957.  Jim married Virginia “Ginny” Booth on November 29,1958 and the two celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2018.  Jim and Ginny were blessed with four children, Susan, Jim, Steve, and Tom.  Jim, along with his dad and Uncle Jack Core, operated Core Chevrolet and Buick for over 30 years. The dealership was located at the site of the new Greybull Swimming pool, land that was donated to the city by Jim.
     As we all know, Jim was an avid golfer and was a proud member of the Midway Golf Club.  In fact, Jim was able to play some golf this year, at the age of 86, and still could hit it right down the middle.  He even played in the first annual Core golf tournament in December last Christmas in AZ. 
     While still selling cars, Jim became a board member of the Wyoming State Golf Association in 1982.  In 2002, when the WSGA needed his services as executive director, Jim resigned from the board of directors as president and for the next 6 years he served as the executive director in charge of the day-to-day operations. He was inducted into the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 for his dedicated work to better the game of golf in Wyoming.   He was inducted into the Wyoming State Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2009 for his many years of service with the WSGA.
     Following the closure of Core Chevrolet and Buick, Jim worked for Russell and Russell accounting and the Security State Bank.  Jim was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Club, and a former board member of the South Big Horn County Hospital District.  Jim served his country in the Wyoming National Guard as a Sgt. First class from 1959-1974.
     Jim is survived by his four children.  Susan Ford (Troy), Jim Core (Sheri), Steve Core (Nancy), and Tom Core (Jerrie).  Two sisters, Caryl Cline (Roy) and Judy Atchison (Don).  Eight grandchildren, Clint Core (Kendra), Patrick Core (Casey), Christine Lodal (Geoff), Heather Jasnoch (Nick), JT Core (Alysa), Marrissa Whitford (Tyler), Kathryn Ford, and Alex Ford (Brooks).  Thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way in November.  There are also several nephews and nieces. 
     Jim was preceded in death by his wife Ginny Core, his brother Clint Core, parents Clint and Lona Lee Core, in-laws Dr. Louis and Virginia Booth.
     At his request, their will be no services.

2021 WSGA Three-Person Championship

July 16th – 18th, 2021

Eric Lovell, Denton Shaw, and Trey Massey are the 2021 Three-Person Champions in the Men’s Division. They had a two-day total of 110, or 32 under par. Brandon Rideout, Cayl Carpenter and Wacey Lym finished a close second with a score of 111, or 31 under par.
Tom and Nancy Zierolf and Chris Bundren are the 2021 Three-Person Champions in the Mixed/Women Division after winning in a “sudden victory” playoff with Morgan Leyba, Andrew Gebhart, and Derrek Jerred. Both teams finished with scores of 122 which was 20 under par.

2021 WSGA Couples Championship

Scott and Caitlyn Skavdahl are the winners of the Gross Division of the Devils Tower Flight. Their total score of 133.

Ellen and PJ Treide were the winners of the Devils Tower Net Division. Their total score was 121.

Tim and Cindy Marton were the winners in the Gross Division of the 77 Steakhouse Flight. Their total score was 149.

Larry and Carol Parker were the winners in the Net Division of the 77 Steakhouse Flight. Their total score was 128.

Kirby Coe-Kirkham came in first in the US Amateur Qualifier held at Jacoby Golf Club in Laramie on July 6. Kirby had rounds of 67 – 70 followed by Brian Dorfman and Trey Massey. Both Dorfman and Massey had two-round totals of 139, just two strokes behind Coe-Kirkham. Kirby is from Sheridan, Brian Dorfman is from Denver and Trey Massey is from Lander.

2021 WJGT Amateur Championship

Jaren Calkins, with rounds of 62 – 65 , was the winner of the 16 – 18 age group. Karsten Simmons came in 2nd with scores of 72 – 64.

 Molli Mulhall was the winner in the girl’s 10- 12 age group with scores of 81- 78.

Izzy Laird was the girl’s 16 – 18 age group winner with scores of 84 – 88. Barrett Georges was second with 90 – 83.

Tate Nichols was the winner of the 10 – 12 age group. Tate’s rounds were 78 – 78. Braxton Costello was second with 81 – 79.

In the Boy’s Division, Isaac Schmidt had scores of 82 – 78 to win the 13 – 15 age group. David Biehl was second with 81 – 81.

Kaden Kraft was the winner in the boy’s 7 – 9 age group with nine-hole scores of 51 – 53

Lily Nicholas won the girl’s 13 – 15 age group with 97 – 99.

 Palmer Mulhall was the winner in the girl’s 7 – 9 age group with nine-hole scores of 45 – 43.

Ali had rounds of 70 – 69 – 70 for a three round total of 206 or 10 under par.

Kirby Coe-Kirkham holds the Trophy along with Dave Snyder. Kirby is the 2021 WSGA Amateur Champion after having rounds of 68 – 65 -73. His total of 206 was 7 under par. (Men’s Par was 71 and Women’s Par was 72)

2021 WSGA State Amateur - - Women's Division

Rachael Stoinski was the winner of the 1st Flight with rounds of 79 – 79 – 83  for a total of 241.

Barrett Georges won the 2nd Flight. Barrett’s scores were 83  – 85 – 85. Her three-day total was 253.

Rachelle Pearson was the winner of the 3rd Flight with scores of 96 – 90 – 97. Rachelle’s total was 283.

2021 WSGA State Amateur - - Men's Division

Russel Sprecher won the 1st Flight with scores of 67- 73- 73 for a total of 215.

Todd Mattson won the 2nd Flight with scores of 79 – 76 – 76 for a total of 231.

Don Vialpando won the 3rd Flight. Don won his flight with scores of 82 – 79 – 79. His three-day total of 240.

Ernie Jonson was the 4th Flight Winner with scores of 88 – 87 – 87 for a total of 262.

2021 WSGA Match Play Championship

Ali Mulhall is the 2021 WSGA Ladies’ Champion having defeated Erika Cook in the final match.

Parker Paxton is the 2021 Match Play Champion. Parker defeated Gonzolo Arcelay  6 and 5 to win the Championship.

Brandon Williams is the winner of  the Devils Tower Flight.

Tim Elder the 2nd Flight winner.

Wyoming Junior World Qualifier - June 7- 8, Jacoby Golf Club, Laramie

Parker Paxton won the Boys Division with rounds of 65 – 69.

 

 

In the girls 14 – 18 Division, Ali Mulhall came in first with scores of 69-68.

 

Molli Mulhall had rounds of 86-80 to place first in the Age 12 Division.

2021 WSGA Winter Championship

     Day one of the WSGA Winter Championship was played on Monday, March 15. The weather was warm, but windy.
     Michael May won the Gross Division with a score of 75. Joe Hunter was second with a 76.
     Molli Mulhall won the Women’s Gross Division with a 79, closely followed by My Paulsen with an 80.
     In the Men’s Net Division, Walter Sturdivant, John Albrectson, Tony Poulos and William Surannyi tied with scores of 76.
     My Paulsen and Dawn Foreman each had a net 70 to tie in the Women’s Net Division.

     The second day of the Winter Championship began with cool temperatures but not much wind.
     Scott Bates had a round of 77 to win the Men’s Gross Division. Michael May, Troy May, and Tim Marton had 77’s to tie for second.
     Jack Morey had a net 66 to take the Men’s Net Division, followed by William Suranyi with a net 70.
     Molli Mulhall was again the Gross Winner of the Women’s Division with a score of 79 followed by Kendall Ashba, My Paulsen, Rachelle Pearson and Annie Kepler with a scores of 88.
     Janice Vosika was the Net Winner with a score of 71.
